  • Served in Royal Navy as a seaman with gunnery radar control sub specialisation until the end of the post WW2 emergency period, mainly in the Mediterranean Fleet. Enlisted in the Royal New Zealand Navy in the rating of Able Seaman.

    Promoted Leading Seaman October 1955, Petty Officer October 1957, Chief Petty Officer December 1962 with the sub specialisation of Chief Gunnery Instructor.

    Commissioned in the rank of Acting Sub Lieutenant (SD)(G)(g+) February 1963, promoted Lieutenant July 1966, promoted Lieutenant Commander January 1973 and placed on the Retired List 18 January 1983.

    Served for 33 years.
