  • Samuel Pemberton was the son of Mr and Mrs S. Pemberton, Devonport Road, Tauranga.

    Enlisted with rank of private and posted to 6th (Hauraki) Company, Auckland Infantry Battalion, 14 August 1914. Proceeded overseas from Wellington on board HMNZT 'Waimana', 16 October 1914.
    Disembarked Alexandria, Egypt, 3 December 1914.
    Proceeded overseas from Alexandria to the Dardanelles on board HMT 'Lutzow', 12 April 1915.
    Wounded in action, the Dardanelles, 8 May 1915 (gun shot wound, left knee); evacuated to HMT 'Southland', 9 May 1915; disembarked and admitted to Royal Navy Hospital Imtarfa, Malta, 18 May 1915; transferred to St George's Hospital, Malta, 6 July 1915; transferred to Pembroke Convalescent Camp, Malta, 7 July 1915; embarked on board HMT 'Georgian' and proceeded overseas to Egypt, 31 August 1915.
    Embarked on board HMT 'Ionian' and proceeded to the Dardanelles, 9 September 1915; disembarked and rejoined unit, the Dardanelles, 15 September 1915.
    Proceeded overseas from Lemnos on board HMT 'Marsova' for Egypt, 25 December 1915; disembarked in Alexandria, Egypt, 26 December 1915.
    Appointed Acting Corporal, Moascar Camp, 9 January 1916.
    Promoted Corporal, Ismailia Camp, 6 March 1916.
    Promoted Sergeant, Ismailia Camp, 3 April 1916.
    Embarked on board HMT 'Franconia' from Port Said, Egypt, and proceeded overseas to France, 6 April 1916.
    Killed in action, 17 September 1916.
