  • Born around 1890. He was the oldest of 9 children, one sister is Ruatea, as he is remembered by family in Mauke in the past and still today he was the son of Vaeruarangi (m) and Metuaone (f).

    As the records in NZ may show, he was named Matekoi Ruatea but actually Matekoi is the first name while Ruatea is his middle name and the surname (Vaeruarangi) had been omitted for reasons unknown.

    Did not proceed overseas. Returned from New Zealand as medically unfit before proceeding on service. AWMM
