  • Served with the British Army, Royal Field Artillery, then Royal Engineers during WW1

    Family recount: "he trained as boilermaker, and returned to the trade after the war. Went to North America becoming involved in bootlegging."

    "In WW2 he served with the New Zealand army and was captured at Crete, imprisioned In Stalag XV111A. in Wolfsberg Austria. As a boy he told me of the Russian POWs were fit and healthy on entering the camp, 6 months on they were skin and bone!" (family recount)

    After the war he worked in Wellington as an engineer, and finally became a fire watcher in the Kaingoroa forest, at Rainbow Mountain near Rotorua. AWMM
