  • John Pine Snadden was born on 24 May 1913 at Te Kuiti, New Zealand. Educated at Auckland Grammar School, he enlisted at war's outbreak in 1939, leaving for overseas with the rank of Lieutenant in May 1940 with the New Zealand Artillery. He served with 5 Field Regiment, New Zealand Artillery, during the Greek, North African, Syrian and Italian campaigns. He was awarded the Military Cross for his actions on Crete.
