    He married Ann Mellersh of Godalming, Surrey. They had three children.

    After the war he led a public life in Local Government and with Government Advisory Agencies

    He was awarded the New Zealand 1999 Commemoration Medal for services to Conservation, and OBE 1982 for services to local body and community affairs
