  • Son of Mr and Mrs Martin Blampied, 12 Beresford Street, Auckland

    Started war service as mobilised Army Territorial on 4 September 1939, becoming a Lieutenant and 2nd in command of a Coastal Artillery Battery in the Bay of Islands then was able to transfer to the RNZAF.

    He trained as pilot in New Zealand, Canada and Britain.

    Flew out of the UK on anti-shipping operations.

    He was on active service during World War 2 from the time war was declared to the last day, then in the Reserve until 1975.
