London Gazette, 21 February 1946 "Following his capture on 28 May 1941, Lt. Col. Bull was imprisoned at Canea for four months before he was transferred to Germany. In addition to his medical duties he did valuable work throughout his captivity in organising secret communication with the War Office. At Stalag IVC where Lt. Col. Bull acted as Senior British Medical Officer for two years and later at the Prisoner of War hospital at Bilin he displayed outstanding devotion to duty. His attitude towards the German authorities was at all times resolute and by persistent demands he was able to introduce improved medical arrangements for his patients. For security reasons it is undesirable to record in detail the full extend of his achievements which were quite outstanding." National Archives, AWMM
