    • Boer War Man Dies at 99

      Date: 27 August 1979

      BLENHEIM, Today (PA). - One of New Zealand's few veterans of the Boer War, Mr Richard Allan, died at his Blenheim home at the weekend. He was in his 100th year.

      The secretary of the South African War Veterans' association, Mr. R. A. Rogers, of Hamilton, said only four veterans now remained on its register.

      Mr Allan joined the sixth contingent of the NZ Mounted Rifles at the age of 20. On his return from South Africa, he joined the police and served for 34 years in Charleston.
