  • I am named after Joseph Baghurst - he is my Grandfather. I have his Boer War medal in my possession. The family name was probably Bagust - but somehow got converted to Baghurst in his and his brothers enlistment to the Boer War. I have been to Baughurst in southern England (near Reading) where the family name apparently comes from. My Grandfather died in 1947, 6 years before I was born in 1952. My Grandmother (Sarah Jane Baghurst) told me that my Grandfather had recurring nightmares of the war and would wake up screaming the Boers are coming!
