Father was named George Bougen. AWMM
    • July 1901 - Sergeant B. G. Bougen, one of the Gisborne boys at the front, originally of the Fourth, now of the Seventh Contingent, writing home from Standerton, states that since last writing he has been made a sergeant, under Lieutenant Trotter, who is the provost-marshall, and there is another sergeant and three men attached to him. They are the policemen in Colonel Gray's column. "We have little work to do," he says, and "Trotter is a good boss." The Seventh had had bad luck thus far having lost three killed and three wounded. One of the Fourth with them, Fred Wyllie, had been killed, and Lieutenant Dillon, who had been with the Fourth right through, came with the Seventh, took command of the scouts, got very badly wounded, and had died since. Four days previously one of the Fifth who was with them was shot dead. Bougen mentions that Trooper James Langham, of Gisborne, who had won the Distinguished Service medal, is returning home. Bougen mentions having met Colonel Porter, who remarked that it was the first opportunity he had had of seeing him since he sent him away with the Fourth from Gisborne. Jack Taylor, from Gisborne, he says, is working as a farrier with them, and is getting 8s day, Bougen himself earning 7s a day as sergeant.
