    He and his mother were left in serious financial difficulties as he became more seriously ill because payments for his sickness were not forthcoming.

    His headstone was initially paid for by the New Zealand Soldiers Guild and maintained by its successor the Victorian Guild. Neglected and falling into disrepair over many years it was restored by the Friends of Waikumete. AWMM
