    • 29 May 1917 - Charles W Giles's father died -
Much regret will be felt at the announcement of the death of Mr Charles Giles, an old and highly-esteemed resident of Hamilton, which occurred at the Waikato Hospital yesterday. Deceased who was a native of Oxford (England) came to New Zealand in 1874, and settled in Pirongia, where he resided for a number of years. From Pirongia he came to Hamilton, where he has resided ever since. He was of the sturdy type, and a most industrious man, and his services were in great demand, for an employer always knew that Charlie Giles would render an honest day's labour under all circumstances. Some time ago he was seized with a painful disease, and a few weeks since he was admitted to the Waikato Hospital, but his case was pronounced hopeless from the first, and he passed away as stated above. He leaves a widow and grown-up family of six daughters and five sons to mourn their loss. The funeral will take place at the Hamilton West cemetery tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon.
