    • This soldier was one of many that came back to Australia on the SS Boohah. Many on the ship contracted influenza, and by the newspaper reports there were close to 180 by the time the ship was due to arrive at Fremantle, Western Australia. There were less than 1000 on board. Many had left on this ship before the war had ended, in fact it as the last Australian ship to leave for the World War One.The ship was then told to return to Australia when the news that the war had ended occurred. They stopped to get supplies, and it it thought the flu came from the people restocking the ship.

As Western Australia was quite isolated they were hoping to avoid the influenza so there was a debate about where the Boonah's sick passengers were to be landed. Meanwhile soldiers waited on board - sick and healthy alike. It is reported in the newspapers of the time (please look it up on TROVE, a free resource). It was later decided the Quarantine station on Woodman Point, Western Australia was where the sick would be sent. The place was not prepared, had small facilities and did the best it could. Drs and nurses volunteered to assist the sick. Some of the staff died too. It is called the 'Boohna Crisis' (see wiki.)

27 soldiers plus 4 nurses died.

The place is now a museum. The soldiers were, I believe, buried at Woodman Point, and later moved. Three nurses graves are still there. Public - Karen - Researcher - 15 March 2019 - https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?sortby=dateAsc&l-decade=191&q=Boonah&l-year=1918&l-month=12&s=20
