  • COLLISION BETWEEN CAR AND MOTOR CYCLE. WELLINGTON. Sunday.
    A shocking fatality occurred on Friday near Temaru. Colonel J M T Hayhursl and Mr. R. W. Martin were motoring into Temaru. At Waslityke, they collided with a motor cyclist named Pat O Connor who was going out from Timaru through both trying to avoid running into a boy who was on the road. The car was overturned, and Colonel Hayhurst was thrown out and killed instantly. Mr. Martin, who was pinned under the car, was severely injured. The motor cyclist was found among the wreckage in an unconscious state.

    Colonel Hayhurst is a prominent Southi Canterbury farmer and a commercial man. He saw active service in the Boer war with the New Zealand second contingent. His two sons have joined the New
    Zealand force for the present war.
