    • Uncle of D.B. Hutton, author of this contribution. Arch (aka "Archie") was brought up at Beaconsfield, South Canterbury, N.Z.

      Arch attended Pareora West School from 29 May 1885. His record states that he "passed Std 5 September 1892."

      As a young single man Arch fought in the Boer War. He volunteered twice, participating first as a trooper (3rd contingent) during the early part of the war, and later as a Farrier Major (9th contingent). (Ref: NZ Military Forces Record).

      Arch and Elizabeth Campbell were married at John Campbell's Farm, Beaconsfield by Rev. James H.G. Chapple. The witnesses were Robert Hutton Jr. (brother) and Jane Campbell (Elizabeth's mother). In his adult life he resided at Temuka (1910, 1911 - Denmark Street), St Andrews (1928 - 46), Ashburton (1949, 1957 at 132 Moore St), Timaru and Waimate. In 1963 Arch was living at Opihi Reserve, South Canterbury. He was a Stock Buyer employed by Sims - Cooper.

      Before his death, Arch was residing at 11 Rolleston Street, Timaru. He is also recorded as being in the Waimate Public Hospital in 1969.

      The New Zealand RGO records Arch's age at death as 90 years. His will was probated on 19 February 1970 in the Timaru Court (Probate No. 68/70) (Ref: Archives NZ, Christchurch). Public - Don - Other relative - 27 March 2023 - Family Tree
