  • Private John V Porter, of Puha, killed in action on June 4th, the eldest son of Mr and Mrs W Porter, settlers, Puha. He left with the Third Reinforcements, landing in Egypt. From there he was transferred the Dardanelles, and got wounded during that terrible time. He was invalided back home to New Zealand by the first hospital ship, made a good recovery, and left again with the 19th Reinforcements, landing in England. After some time on Salisbury Plains he was sent to France, and had been in the trenches since the 8th of March.
