    EX SOLDIERS DEATH
Early last evening Mr George William Irvine McEWIN collapsed in Edendale Road, and died as he was being rushed to the hospital by St John Ambulance. Mr McEWIN was the brother of Me E. McEWIN, licensee of the Hobson Hotel, with whom he had been staying. He had been in ill health for some time. It is believed that his death was due to a haemorrhage, probably due to a fit of coughing. The deceased was born in Auckland and was 49 years of age. He saw service in both the Boer and Great War. He left New Zealand with the 8th Reinforcements for the last war, and served in Egypt till after the declaration of peace. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity. An inquest was opened by the coroner Mr W.R McKEAN, SM, this morning and a post mortem examination was ordered.
