  • Vivian also only 13 years old when he enlisted for the Boer war. He came back to NZ married and had children. He would become a boxing trainer. When the first World War broke out he reenlisted with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles and saw action with the Battalion in the Middle East, where he was wounded. He returned to civilian life at wars end and returned to his life. In later years memories of the war haunted him. Memories of shooting a civilian by accident whilst on guard in Egypt were never far from his mid and haunted him until his dying day in the 1950s. He was always proud of his military service and proud to have served his country.
