MR. WILLIAM MORRIS The death occurred at the Cook Hospital yesterday of Mr. William (Whit) Morris, who had lived all his life iti the Gisborne district, apart from a period spent as a member of the New Zealand forces in the Boer War. Born in Ormond 62 years ago, he was still in his teens when he enlisted for service in South Africa, and when he returned he was employed by the Railways Department in the Gisborne district for many years. His wife, who was formerly Miss Gwen Morris, came from England to Gisborne, where they were married, and she and one daughter, Mrs. N. G. Harvey, Ormond, are left to mourn their loss. The interment is to be with military honours, and members of the R.S.A., of which he was a member, and particularly South African veterans, are to assemble at the R.S.A. office at 10.45 a.m. on Monday for the Purpose of .attending the service at Cochrane’s chapel at 11 o’clock and the interment at the South African plot at the Taruheru cemetery.
