My name is Edgar Pulu. Sergeant Niuloa Pulu is my great grandfather. My father, Edgar Pulu Sr. Has kept Great Grandfather's Certificate of service for New Zealand Defense dated on 1914, with him throughout his entire service in the United States Navy. He held this Certificate which is sadly in 3 pieces due to erosion.

It is with great sadness and sorrow to let my New Zealand family know that Dad passed on October 24th, 2018 at the age of 85. His services will be held here in San Diego on November 18th and 19th.at the first Samoan Congregational church that he helped build in 1955.
To my Niue family in Aotearoa, we send our love to Great Granpa Pulu especially for his grandson Edgar Pulu who rests in love and peace with him today.
Remembering you today and always Great Grand Uncle Pulu and your 3 brothers. Finally met your great grand daughter Vaiata in Hawaii earlier this year. Thank you for the great sacrifice you made for your family and country. Kia Monuina.

Vaiata I just read your post from 2016. Have emailed you. Pulu is the Great Grand uncle of my husband Ian Hipa. We have been living in Hikutavake now for over 5 years - the village they are all from. Our family home is built on the exact spot our Great Grandfather Hipa and his wife Sifahemotu built one of their homes. This is a special time for our families as we remember our Great Grandfather and Great Grand Uncles. We have a nephew living in Australia who uses the name Nuiloa. Forever in our hearts. Lest we forget. Ian, Adam & Emi Hipa.

I am Sgt. Pulu's great granddaughter. My grandfather is Edgar Pulu and my mother is Ramona Pulu (Pulusian). It's my first time seeing this site, but I have been aware of ggrandfather's and his brothers' service in WWI.
Ggrandmother VAIATA (whom I'm named after) moved with her children Lila & "Edgar" to Vaipuna, Samoa then on to American Samoa (Utulei) where my mother and I were born. Unfortunately, my grandfather died long before I was born and while my mother was only nine, so our Niue connection was lost for quite some time. However, in the last 10 years we've been able to connect with some of Hipa's children and other descendants of Niuloa and Fukesifa (Sgt. Pulu's parents) of Hikutavake. Would LOVE to know more of my Niue cousins.
I am grateful for the love and appreciation for Ggrandfather and his brothers and their service and sacrifice. Fakaue lahi, Faafetai tele lava.

I am so happy and proud that you since fought in the war. I am grateful that you have made peace in my country. I hope that you died in peace as that's what you deserve.
Thank you so much for everything that you have done.

We pay tribute to you Great Grand Uncle Pulu. Laid a poppy for you and your 3 siblings that were brave enough to leave the peace and tranquillity of Niue to fight a cold war halfway across the world.
Thank you for being brave and for contributing to the service whereby we your children can now live peacefully on this earth.
"Fakaue oue tulou kehe ha mutolu a tau loto malolo moe toa ke o atu ke he felakutakiaga lahi nei, kua tokanoa mo e nonofo fiafia ai a mautolu ai nei".
Bless you Papa Pulu! Love you and thank you now and forever.

I am Tipae Hipa's grandson and my middle name is in honor of his brother Hemu. My mother Rosalina was the only child of Tipae Hipa who was married to my grandmother Sifahemotu.
I have fond memories of Hikutavake where my grandfather and his brothers were born and raised before they left their home and family to lands unknown to help fight a war they knew nothing about.
I just want to express my sincere and deepest gratitude to my grand uncle Pulu, my grandfather Tipae Hipa and his other 2 brothers Hemu and Peni who lay down their lives to fight that we in this generation may live and enjoy life today. I can only imagine the fear, the uncertainty they had not having worn any army clothing let alone wearing those heavy boots and not conversant with English must have been awful.
I take this opportunity to honor my granduncles and grandfather and may God rest their souls in peace.

This year being the 100 ANZAC centenary and in memory of those who went to war fighting for our freedom, my search of family has led me to this site. Scrolling down through the names I was drawn to you Sergeant Pulu. My dad is from Alofi Niue, part of his name is pulu and his dad I was told died out at sea. Could I have been guided to a relative? I express my deepest gratitude for your service and sacrifice of your life for us who have been able to live in freedom. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and will remember you.....lest we forget xxx
