      Text of the Memorial plaque, Bank of New Zealand Arcade, Wellington, New Zealand: 'In Memoriam: The names inscribed upon this tablet are those of officers of the Bank of New Zealand who laid down their lives in the Great War AD 1914-1919 waged against the nations of central Europe - Germany, Austria, Turkey and Bulgaria - who sought by force of arms to obtain world-wide dominion. In honour of their patriotism and valour. In admiration of their sacrifice. And in grateful perpetuation of their glorious and ennobling memory this monument is reverently dedicated. Their Name Liveth for Evermore.'

    • Born Nelson.

      Son of Cyril N. Raine and his wife Alice Maude (nee Everett) of Nelson - and later of Wanganui.
      Brother of 2nd Lieutenant Harvey (Harry) Raine : NZEF # 3/618 - served New Zealand Medical Corps 1915-1919.
      Also brother of Thomas & Armonel Raine.
      Grand-son of twice Mayor of Nelson - and Nelson Hotels & Draper business- man Edward Everett (1820-1904) and his wife Hannah Maria Everett (1826-1900).
      Educated at Nelson College.

      Percy was working at the Bank of New Zealand - at Hunterville, Central North Island - at enlistment.
      Enlisted 29 August 1916.

      Percy dis-embarked from his troop ship - 18 February 1917 - at Devonport, England.
      Marched into NZEF Training Camp - at Codford, England.
      At Codford Percy joined the 3rd Battalion of the Auckland Infantry Battalion.
      16 April 1917 - Admitted - sick with Influenza - to New Zealand General Hospital at Codford.

      On 20 August 1917 Percy left England for active war service at France & Belgium.

      On 14 September 1917 Percy joined the 2nd Battalion of the Auckland Infantry Regiment - in the field - at Belgium.

      On 4 October 1917 Percy was posted missing - believed wounded in the field - at Passchendaele, Belgium.
      The same day he was found by stretcher bearers of the New Zealand Medical Corps.
      Also on the same day Percy was admitted to the No 3 (New Zealand) Field Ambulance - in the field - at Passchendaele, Belgium.
      From there - also on 4 October 1917 - Percy was admitted to the 44th Casualty Clearing Station - with gun shot wounds to both knees.

      The following day 5 October 1917 Percy died of wounds received in action - 4 October 1917 - at the 44th Casualty Clearing Station.
      At his death Percy Raine was 21 years of age.

      Percy Raine is remembered at his birth place of Nelson - with his brother 2nd Lieutenant Harvey (Harry) Raine - on the World War 1 'Wall of Remembrance' at Founders Park, Nelson City - which commemorates the 3600+ Nelson & Districts born service men and women who served in World War 1. Public - Jenifer - Other relative - 23 November 2018 - Family and Military File.
    • Percy Raine is remembered on both the Hunterville Cenotaph and the Flag of Remembrance which is displayed in the Hunterville RSA Hall. The flag was hand embroidered by the ladies of the district circa 1919. Percy is remembered each ANZAC Day, where a cross in his name is displayed for two weeks over the ANZAC period, in the Lawn of Remembrance alongside all those from the Hunterville area who gave their lives in the service of New Zealand.
