  • Rainey left for France on 7 December and joined the 3 Battalion, 3 NZRB, 'C' Company. "He suffered with feet problems and spent the next few months in and out of hospital in France. He was eventually transferred to England and admitted to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst on 27 July 1918 suffering from valvular disease of the heart. He was placed on the 'Seriously Ill List suffering from ulcerative endocarditis and died in August"(Church, p.208) AWMM
