  • "Lieut. Cyril Blakeney, New Zealand (now reported killed in action on August 9th), had been, ever since leaving College, in the New Zealand Forces. He left New Zealand with his regiment about a year ago, and had had almost constant service in the field. He had only left hospital, where he had been recovering from sunstroke, a few days before he fell. For several years he had managed Ashwick, his step-father's station in New Zealand. He was 26 years old, and was engaged to be married to Leila, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Cave-Orme, of Louth. Newcastle Journal, September 5th. (Chronicles of the N.Z.E.F.
