    • 1. Albert Edward (Albie) HARRIS1,2,3,4,5. Born 19 Jun 1894/97/98.5 Albert Edward (Albie) died in Rawene Hospital, Rawene, New Zealand, on 14 Jan 1963; he was 68.6,7,4 Buried on 16 Jan 1963 in Russell Cemetery, Russell, New Zealand.8 Occupation: hotel keeper (1959-63).9,6

      His parents were Mary and John Edwin HARRIS5,10 She was born in NZ, he was born in Wales11
      His will was made in July 1959 at Kohukohu, where he was a hotel keeper; he gave his estate to his daughters Shirley Yvonne SINCLAIR and Patricia Mary HARRIS and the children of Shirley. A 1960 codicil noted that he was now living at Russell, and that he bequeathed his house at Russell to Patricia. His probate papers note that he then moved to Opononi.9,6

      He gave his birth date as 19 June 1894 when he signed up for the NZ Army - perhaps because he was not really old enough to register? Service number 17407, as a Trooper with the Wellington Mounted Rifles. He was a labourer, living with his mother at Old Poriirua Rd, Ngaio, Wellington when he signed up. Served in WWI, 8.2.1916-7.9.1919, including time in Egypt. By 1924 he was living at 21 Herbert St, Greymouth.
      He also served briefly in WWII, service number 35101 (4.9.1939-13.2.1940 (163 days); he then gave his birth date as 19 June 1898!. When examined in 1939 he was 5’ 10” tall and 16 st 1lb in weight.9

      Aged 65 at death4 Born in New Zealand. Buried in RSA Plot 15.8

      In 1921 when Albert Edward (Albie) was 26, he married Nellie Millicent (Millie) JONES1,2,3,12 in New Zealand.1 Born ca 1897.13 Nellie Millicent (Millie) died in Wellington, New Zealand, on 9 Apr 1953; she was 56.9,6,12,8 Buried on 3 Jul 1953 in Karori Cemetery, Wellington, New Zealand.8 Cremated in 1953 in Karori Crematorium, Wellington.8

      Her will, made in 1941, gave her estate to her daughters, Shirley Yvonne HARRIS and Patricia Mary HARRIS9,6
