  • Son of John Waters Keith Alice Mary Keith (nee Jefferis), of Te Kauwhata

    Farming family. Walter was a second generation New Zealander. He had 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

    Two sons, brothers served in WW2 Walter James Keith (65029) and youngest brother Ralph (Peter) (620198) died during active service 14th May 1944 in Cassino.

    Walter enjoyed wood chopping competions during time in Pacific.

    Returning to the farm after the war, he married in 1949 Gabrielle Bloy, they had three children, 1 daughter Jennifer and 2 sons John and Peter. He lived in Waerenga until retiring in 1980 to Pukekohe, farming sheep and dairy. When he retired he bred a Hereford stud.

    He enjoyed Rugby as a player and also coached school boy teams. He also belonged to community groups and joined the Lions when it started in Te Kauwhata.

    Deafness after war was a handicap for him. AWMM
