  • William was one of two brothers from NZ who died in a France in 1916. A third brother returned home to NZ. These two men were my grandmothers uncles. They were part of her memories. We have placed a poppy next to Williams name on the wall of honor in Canberra along with my husbands great- uncle. Neither William or my husbands great- uncle have a grave, their remains were never located or grave sites lost with changing front lines. William's brother Alfred does have a grave in a France. Hopefully one day I will be able to visit. These young men are part of our history.
