  • Peter Halcrow was the son of Peter Halcrow Cumming, and of Margaret Jaffray Cumming, of Clinton, Otago, New Zealand.

    SS Tilawa was torpedoed and sunk by Japanese submarine I29, NW of Maldive Islands. The explosion caused panic among the passengers, who rushed the life boats and rafts. Some reports indicate 958 people were aboard. AWMM
