    As a journalist covered the defense of Madrid in 1936 and events leading up to the declaration of War in Europe

    Joined the New Zealand Division in Greece, fought in Crete and North Africa

    Represented the New Zealand Government as Charge d'Affairs in Washington, DC 1942 on the Pacific War Council

    Rejoined the 2NZEF in Italy and in early 1944 served as an intelligence officer finishing in Trieste

    Resumed his journalistic career after the war, with a British newspaper. He later joined the Independent Television News in 1956 and became a pioneer of the hard-hitting interview and half-hour news bulletin. Founder of News at 10. AWMM
