  • Rangi and Bonny his wife [ my mother's first cousin ] lived , in my mother's words, a romantic life- that is , they were not wealthy but they had things like horses to cherish . When I was about 12 and we were both at my grandparents [ my gran was BONNY"s aunt] Rangi made quite an impression on me! he pointed out that Classical piano playing was not the B - all - and - end -all [ I had been playing for all who were there at my grandparents ,showing off or something like that ] . Though this comment made me feel a bit slighted at the time, it helped me get perspective re my music all my life since then- for that I am very grateful. he was really neat - they both were very involved with horses as said above . bye dears

  • Angus , known to most as Rangi Ngakai . He full name was Angus ( Rangi) Ripikoi Howard Ngakai. Ripikoi being his fathers family name , Ngakai his mothers and Howard I believe was the name of his grand father. He was , and still is in my heart , the beloved Uncle and as close as one can get to being my second father. He was married to my Aunt , Bridget ( Bonnie) Docherty . He died with his second love behind my aunt , his horse . They were together since he was 6 years old as he worked for my grand father as a jockey , and later after many years married my aunt trained horses and worked the land as a farmer . He and my aunt fostered over 20 children and never hesitated to give to others. He was and is one of the pillars that has made me the man I am today . God bless and rest in peace until we meet again.
