  • Colin MacKay joined that army just after his 18th birthday. He missed sailing with the last Reinforcements to leave New Zealand because of his young age. As the War drew to an end Colin remained in the army with no signs of his demobilisation and he volunteered to serve in Japan with JayForce.

    He embarked as a temporary staff sergeant

    Colin served in Japan for 1 year 29 days, returning to New Zealand for a further 34 days service before being discharged. He spent a total of 3 years 137 days in the New Zealand Army.

    After the war he returned to insurance work with the NZ Insurance and worked extensively in India, East Africa, Asia and America.

    He married Judith, a West Australian, and together they raised twin boys.

  • Dad, Today, Anzac Day 2015, I took Jojo to the Auckland Grammar Anzac service. She proudly wore your medals. I wish you'd met her. She is very interested in your service, and Grampy's service on Gallipoli. I'll keep the memory alive, and I am sure Jojo will too. Love Rick
