    Died: 17/11/1982

    Keith Holdgate died suddenly of a coronary occlusion after a long and busy life. He was born and educated in Timaru where he distinguished himself as a miler, his name being engraved on a cup below that of Lovelock. In 1924 he graduated at Otago Medical School, thereafter taking up resident appointments in Christchurch before travelling to London where he spent the next five years acquiring further experience and gaining the MRCP at his first attempt. Returning to New Zealand with his first wife he began practice on Auckland's North Shore.

    In 1930 he was appointed as the first medical registrar at Auckland Hospital and the following year as a senior visiting physician. In 1943 he joined the New Zealand Army Medical Corps and serves at the Third Base Hospital at Bari.
