  • Graham was my mother's older brother. He was the son of Sarah Whitehead (Keelan) from Hiruhārama and John Whitehead (Whareponga & Kennedy's Bay (Harataunga). His iwi connections are Ngāti Porou and hapū connections are: Te Aitanga-a-Mate, Te Whānau-a-Iritekura, Te Awe Mapara, Te Whānau-a-Rākairoa, and Te Whānau-a-Te Aowera.

Uncle Graham married Aunty Beryl Marguerite Whitehead. She had 3 children from a previous marriage. They had one child together, Wendy Whitehead, who is an artist. Wendy continues to live and work in the Hawke's Bay area.

Born and raised in Hiruhārama on the outskirts of Ruatoria; Graham attended Hiruhārama Native School and was a member of the Hikurangi Pariha choir. Uncle died around 1983 and is buried in the Wharerangi Services Cemetery in Napier. Aunty Beryl passed away in December 2013. She was buried with Uncle Graham.

I am the daughter of Ripeka Te Omerengi
