    His Grandfather Henry Robertson (4048) served in the Anglo Boer War and served as a regular soldier in the army. His father's half brother Frank Neil (Dick) Robertson (21464) was kia WW2.

    Family write that Gairn was determined to follow in their footsteps and joined the Territorials, 4th Waikato Mounted Rifles, Pakuranga Troop and that he was greatly influenced by Jack Reeves of the 2nd Divisional Cavalry (1059 killed in action)

    Posted to Broadcasting Unit as a Driver mechanic.
