Leave a tribute or memory of
Albert Ernest Blinkhorn
I am part of a Volunteer Project, researching the men whose names are on a plaque in a decommissioned church - St Mary's - in the parish where Albert lived in Preston, Lancashire, England. After researching Albert's life using census returns, I discovered he lived, and his family after his death continued to live, in a house which still remains and is a five minute walk from where I spent the first sixty years of my life. Albert's story has touched me deeply, from his early life as a weaver in a cotton mill in Preston, to serving on 16 vessels as a leading stoker in the Royal Navy, to joining the NZ Field Artillery in 1914, and his death on the Somme. I frequently drive past what was his family home and think of him - of his adventurous spirit and of his sacrifice. God Bless You Albert - it has been a privilege to research your life story; if only I could find out more .......
