  • Eric met his wife Joyce Margaret Jones at New Zealand House in London. Joyce was in the British army. They married 7 September 1943 at Tonbridge, Kent

    He left to return to New Zealand, via Egypt 9 June 1944 leaving his wife in England. She was pregnant and gave birth to a daughter 24 July 1944. Joyce came to New Zealand as a war bride, arriving 7 February 1945 before the war ended. Eric wrote a poem expressing his thoughts about the war in 1943.

    Eric and Joyce had 6 children settling for the rest of his life in Hamilton
