    Enlisted as a boy in 1939 and started service 1941

    Reg Lowen was the first New Zealand naval person to qualify as a torpedo anti-submarine instructor after the amalgamation of the Torpedo Branch and the ASDIC Branch to become the Underwater Weapons Department
