MM. London Gazette, 26 May 1917, p5197, Rec No 728: At Ploegsteert on 27th March 1917. During the heavy bombardment at Ploegsteert on the night of the 23/3/17 the gun pit where this NCO was on duty was struck by a shell, one man being killed and two wounded. At great risk to himself through a heavily shelled area, this NCO carried one of the wounded men (Gunner Anderson) to a place of saftey. Notwithstanding that the position was still being subjected to a heavy fire of both 15cm and 10.5cm shells, this NCO returned through the shelled area to the same gun pit and going into the open in front when shells were falling, he secured Corporal Duggan and likewise carried him to a place of saftey.
