  • Kenneth Abernethy was the son of the Reverend Christopher and Georgina Elizabeth Abernethy, of Woodville and later of 363 Cambridge Terrace, Christchurch.

    Three sons served in WW1, two were killed - Thomas Mitchell Abernethy (55293) and Kenneth Shorland Abernethy (14182) . The third brother, 2nd Lieutenant Rex Clifford Abernethy (14185) also with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade survived.
