    Journalist and together with his wife Forrestina popularised mountaineering through their writings in newspaper articles.

    Was a reporter in Samoa 1899

    In Samoa in 1914 with the Samoan Advance

    Appointed Official War Correspondent WW1 but was never attested, only attached to NZEF, and there was not allocated a service number.

    Reported from the Dardanelles 1915

    Evacuated to Egypt late 1915

    Published "Light and shade in war" 1916

    Edited with his wife, "Noel Ross and his work" 1919 a memorial to their son who died of typhoid fever

    Contributed the New Zealand chapter in "The Empire at War" edited by Sir Charles Lucas

    After the war he returned to work as a journalist and worked as a correspondent for the Press and Otago Daily Times AWMM
