  • Family write: "he was part of a contingent of medical students from Otago that were meant to finish their training in the UK but were instead diverted to play a part in the first wave at Gallipoli.

    He served in Palestine where he got malaria, then France where he was gassed twice. Then he returned to NZ in 1918 to the influenza epidemic then in 1920 while working in the Chathams he lost his wife in childbirth while he was away attending another patient. "
