  • Son of Mr and Mrs A. Mears, Kauika Road, Whangarei. Husband of Win; brother of Terry, Barry.

    Attended Whangarei Convent School

    He was the wireless operator of a Stirling bomber taking part in a raid on Cologne, Germany, which was shot down by a night-fighter on the return journey. Mears baled out successfully but was captured. He was one of only two survivors. AWMM
