  • I owe this man a great deal. I only had a fleeting moment I met this man, and it touched me for life.

It happened it the age of 14/15 back in 1980. I was in "Sea Cadets" in a unit called TS Amokura. Rear Admiral Anderson visited our unit on a Wednesday night. I was chosen to be "Guard commander" that night. I was tasked with leading a small detachment of boys around my age onto the quarter deck for parade. The Admiral was in attendance, and was tasked with picking the best dressed cadet. You guessed it, it was me. I'll never forget his friendly, personable smile and manner. For an officer of this standing and rank to attend and to take part left a lasting impression. I was incredibly honoured for this man to have picked me. It left an indelible impression on me that lasts until this day. I am so happy to be able to leave a memory such as this in writing for his sons to read. RIP Sir.
