  • Son of Lewis Philip and Eliza Becroft (nee Morgan) of Belmont Avenue, Mount Albert, Auckland.

    Two sons, brothers Philip Verne Becroft and William Clifford Becroft (10988) died in service in WW1.

    Mobilised shortly after the war broke out, from Auckland Regiment, A Company for duty at the Wireless Station at Awanui Station near Kaitaia. Most of the men were aged 18 - 21 years old and they were replaced as they enlisted in the NZEF. The guard functioned for most of the war period. (Field, H.G. (1960))

    He was ill for 26 days, and was buried in Mangonui
