    Manawatu Standard, May 3, 2017: 'CAIRNS, John:
    Regt. No.36464, Capt., 1RNZIR, also 1Bn Gordon Highlanders of Palmerston North, peacefully on May 2 at Julia Wallace, after a long battle with Parkinsons, with Isabella by his side. Aged 84 years. Beloved husband for 61 years of Isabella. Dearly loved father and father-in-law of Vivien and Peter Wilson, and the late John Hope; John and Kim (Shanghai); Ginny (Kuala Lumpur); Fiona and Geoff Wood. Adored Papa of Aaron and Anna Hope, Alex, and Cameron Wilson; Michelle, and Michael; James, Sophie, and Sam Wood and great-grandfather of Caitlin. Loved brother of Helen, James, and the late Margie (Scotland); and loved brother-in-law of Rachael (England). Donations in lieu of flowers to the Parkinsons Society, would be appreciated and may be left in the Chapel foyer. Special thanks to the staff at Julia Wallace for their loving care of John over the last 2 years. Messages to Cairns family c/- P.O.Box 5191, Palmerston North 4441.
