Brian Ashton Taipau Cootes

dad was 21 when he joined the army in 1963 ,8 months later he was on his way to the malayan peninsular where he was to serve for just over 2 years in very trying tropical jungle conditions .in 1966 transferred to the reserves where he was to serve for another 5 years . his medallic recongnition for service to his country he was awarded the new zealand operational service medal ,the general service medal with the borneo and malay peninsular clasps and the pingat jasa malaysia medal and the nz defence service medal .
