  • After arriving at Sling Camp Rogers transferred to the New Zealand Rifle Brigade base at Brocton, Staffordshire. Here he joined 'A' Company, 5 Reserve Battalion with the rank of Rifleman. (Church, p.203)

    Rogers was posted to France on 23 October 1917 where he joined the 2 Battalion, 3 New Zealand Rifle, 'D' Company in November. (Church, p.203)

    In early November 1917 Rogers fell ill with the measles and was admitted to No.3 Field Ambulance followed by the New Zealand Stationary Hospital. His condition deteriorated to bronchial pneumonia and he was transferred to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst, Balmer Lawn section. He was discharged on 26 March 1918 and returned to the New Zealand Rifle Brigade base at Brocton. By the 3 April, however, he was back at Brockenhurst suffering from lobar pneumonia. He died two weeks later. (Church, p.204)

    One of Cyril Roger's brothers, Private George Henry Rogers, 38750, 1 Battalion, Wellington Regiment also died in the War. He was killed in action on 3 October 1917 during the Third Battle of the Ypres. (Church, p.204)
