  • Ernest Rose was the son of John E. M. Rose, of 89 Kainui Road, Hataitai, Wellington.
    Embarked as part of the 6th Reinforcements to 3rd Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade.
    "Sergeant in the N.Z.R.B., Lewis gun section, left New Zealand with the 15th Reinforcements in November, 1916, and was killed in action on November 4th, 1918, while leading his men against Le Quesnoy just before the armistice. When in France he contracted pneumonia, and was invalided to England before his return to the front." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School])
