The London Gazette, Supplement 30813, p. 8853 " For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. The battery position was being heavily shelled, and a dump of howizer ammunition was set on fire. Fuses were in actual contact with flames, and although one shell had actually exploded, he immediately went to the fire and removed the shell from the dump, thus preventing a large explosion. By his courageous action the battery was enabled to keep in action. He subsequently organised a party and extinguished the fire." AWMM
