  • I was aware of the involvement and death in Flanders, Messines 1917, because his photograph was on the wall of my family home in Greymouth in the 1940's - 1950's. I have since gained some information from official records and have twice visited the New Zealand memorial at Messines where the only record of his involvement and death is shown. His passing is also recorded at his parents grave site in the Greymouth cemetery and recently displayed on a new memorial plaque to he family, also displayed on the Greymouth WW1 memorial cenotaph. His sad demise in WW1 at such a young age 19? is recognised by his descendants who honour his memory on Anzac Day and at other times.
